Calvin H. Stoney

Calvin H. Stoney has more than 30 years of experience in institutional advancement. He has been with Gonser Gerber Tinker Stuhr since 1979, becoming a partner in 1982. Immediately before joining the firm, he was Chief Development Officer at Marquette University, where he was responsible for the fundraising and an alumni relations program that included designing and directing a major capital campaign. Mr. Stoney also served as Director of Development at Lawrence University, as Associate Director of Development at Vanderbilt University, and as Director of Public Relations at Westminster College. Before entering the field of institutional advancement, he taught speech communications at Westminster College.

His current and former clients include colleges, universities, independent elementary and secondary schools, consortiums of Catholic schools, religious orders, and other charitable organizations. His consulting has focused on strengthening Boards of Trustees, annual, capital, major and planned gift programs, admissions programs, utilization of volunteers, strategic planning, public relations, marketing, and communications.

Mr. Stoney has a B.A. degree in history from Carroll College in Wisconsin, an M.A. in speech from Central Missouri University, an honorary doctorate of letters from Lincoln Memorial University and A.B.D., University of Missouri.

A popular speaker and author, Mr. Stoney has had numerous articles published in Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Currents, Diocesan Fiscal Management, and other publications. He is active in several regional and national professional associations, including CASE, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, Association of Fundraising Professionals (formerly National Society of Fundraising Executives). He served on the Board of Trustees of Mary Holmes College in Westpoint, Mississippi.
